The San Francisco 49ers had three defensive linemen go down with injuries in their Week 3 win over the Arizona Cardinals according to head coach Kyle Shanahan who spoke with reporters Monday on a conference call.
Shanahan confirmed that defensive end Nick Bosa sustained a torn ACL, and he noted that defensive end Mykel Williams is day-to-day with a wrist injury that cost him a handful of snaps in the 49ers’ victory. The other injury was on the interior where rookie defensive tackle CJ West suffered a broken thumb. Shanahan said West is on track to have surgery Tuesday, and he could miss some time because of it.

“I don’t know exactly how he did it, but he broke his thumb,” Shanahan said. “That’s why he is needing surgery. He’ll have a chance, they say. We’ll see how it goes this week, but he’ll have a chance at the end of the week with a cast, and if not, he should be good the following week. But, we’ve got to see how this week goes with him.”
The injury is poorly timed for West who posted his most productive game Sunday against the Cardinals. Pro Football Focus had him down for one quarterback pressure and a pair of run stops − his first of the season in any of those stats.
While missing West for any amount of time wouldn’t be optimal, it doesn’t sound like he’s going to miss more than a week if he misses any time at all. The key will be ensuring that once he is back he picks up where he left off Sunday.
