The Davante Adams signing and subsequent release of Cooper Kupp signed the Los Angeles Rams were ready for an offensive upgrade in 2025. Not because Kupp is bad, but because Adams is a much more versatile offensive threat who can do more and open up more for Puka Nacua throughout the field.

But more than that, Yahoo Sports’ Matt Harmon said that Adams gives the Rams something they’ve lacked since they won the Super Bowl in 2021: A true X receiver. While the Rams have tried to find one in players like Allen Robinson and Demarcus Robinson, neither have been consistent playmakers. Adams’ presence gives them that additional offensive piece.

“This really brings, for the first time in a minute, a true X receiver to this team,” Harmon said. “The last time they had a guy playing that role effectively was Odell Beckham during the Super Bowl run.

“There is going to be a large majority of the snaps this year where Davante Adams, again, is on Matthew Stafford’s backside, he’s along the boundary, he’s just truly and pure X receiver there in the truest sense of the form. And I think we saw enough last year from Davante in isolation, he might not be peak Davante Adams but he is definitely a guy who can still get open against press man coverage, which was a skillset that this team desperately needed, it’s why they moved on from Cooper Kupp.”

Adams and Nacua give Matthew Stafford arguably a top-5 receiver duo for the 2025 season. They both are great players at the catch point and in the middle of the field. Together, there is hope for L.A. that the offense will see a bump from good to great as they defend the NFC West.
