Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb will miss at least the next two games after suffering a high-ankle sprain early in Sunday’s Week 3 loss to the Chicago Bears.
Lamb didn’t sustain the injury on an acrobatic touchdown grab or contested catch. Instead, the injury occurred on a play far more inconsequential.
The $136 million WR suffered the injury on a handoff play in the first quarter — a play that was ultimately negated by offsetting penalties. The superstar wideout was later ruled out for the remainder of the contest.
Lamb played just six snaps in the 31-14 loss and failed to record a single reception.
The Cowboys coaching staff faced some backlash from fans who felt they put Lamb in harm’s way with this handoff play.

On Tuesday, both team owner Jerry Jones and head coach Brian Schottenheimer defended the decision.
“There’s no regret. No. That goes with it,” Jones said during his weekly radio appearance with 105.3 The Fan, via The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “That’s been an effective play for us over the last few years. It’s one that we will take advantage of when he gets back.”
Added Schottenheimer: “Absolutely not. You call passes and runs for people and try to get them the ball. It’s unfortunate, but we’re gonna still call quarterback runs with Dak at times. You hate to see it happen, but no. No second thoughts.”

With Lamb out for at least the next two weeks, WR George Pickens and tight end Jake Ferguson will be asked to continue the production they had in Week 3. Pickens finished the game with five catches for 68 yards and one touchdown, and Ferguson reeled in 13 grabs for a team-high 82 yards.
Lamb will be considered week-to-week following his two-game absence, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. The Cowboys reportedly do not plan to place their superstar wide receiver on injured reserve, which would rule him out for at least four weeks.
The Cowboys will welcome the Green Bay Packers for a “Sunday Night Football” matchup in Week 4. This contest will pit Dallas against its former franchise player, Micah Parsons.
