Jordan Hessbrook, head coach of Ithaca High School football, has been named the Detroit Lions High School Coach of the Week for week four.

Hessbrook led his team to a decisive 68-6 win over Carrollton last Friday, bringing their season record to 4-0.

In their first four games, the Yellowjackets have scored 203 points, averaging 50 per game, and are ranked third in Division 7.

Now in his 12th season of coaching and fifth as head coach, Hessbrook has led Ithaca to the playoffs in each of the last four seasons. He has guided the team to regional appearances in 2002 and 2023, and holds an overall record of 41-8.

Ahead of Friday’s matchup against Hemlock, Detroit Lions Football Education interviewed Hessbrook about his coaching tenure, the challenges of succeeding his uncle, his outlook for the 2025 season, and how he manages homecoming weekend while preparing for a major game.

Each week throughout the 2025 high school football regular season, one coach is selected by a panel of high school football media members for demonstrating success on the field, develops players’ character, discipline, and football skill.
