For the second consecutive year, Washington Commanders general manager Adam Peters appears to have found a second-round gem at cornerback. Last year, it was Mike Sainristil. In 2025, it’s Trey Amos.

The second-round pick from Ole Miss had an excellent summer for the Commanders, winning the outside cornerback job opposite Marshon Lattimore. The move allowed Sainristil to play his more natural position inside, covering the slot.

Through three games, Lattimore and Sainristil have had some ups and downs. Lattimore struggled in Week 2, but played well in the other two games. Sainristil wasn’t his usual self over the last two games. Meanwhile, Amos has thrived and is already looking like the Commanders’ top cornerback.

Check out these impressive numbers through three weeks.

One play from Amos’ game on Sunday against the Raiders stood out:

The only thing Amos didn’t do here was come away with the interception. Otherwise, it was textbook cornerback play.

Opposing teams are opting to target Lattimore and Sainristil instead of Amos. Yes, it’s early, but the respect is already there for Amos. The Commanders are confident with Amos, whether it’s zone or man coverage, which isn’t always the case for a rookie.
