Week 4 arrives for the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs on the practice field today. They will meet this Sunday at 4:25 at Arrowhead Stadium. When it is all said and done, one of these preseason Super Bowl contender teams will be 1-3. Something no one saw coming, but both the Chiefs and Ravens have had disappointing starts to their seasons for a number of reasons.
The Ravens are 4-8 all-time against the Chiefs, 2-3 on the road. John Harbaugh is 3-5 against the Chiefs and 1-3 on the road. The Ravens one have one win against the Chiefs in the last decade (2021 regular season). Kansas City has won five of the last six meetings against Baltimore all but one of those featuring quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson.
Their last meeting was September 5th of last season with the Chiefs winning 27-20 in Kansas City for the NFL season opener and rematch of the AFC Championship from the 2023 season.
The Ravens rank 14th in total offense, the Chiefs 17th. The Ravens are 12th in rushing, KC 17th. The Ravens own the league’s 14th best pass offense, while the Chiefs are 15th. The Ravens are first in points per game scoring an average of 37 in three games, with the Chiefs 21st (20). While Kansas City has struggled this season on offense, mostly due to missing its top two wide receivers, the Ravens have struggled defensively.
The Ravens are the league’s worst defense in total yards. They are next to last ranked 31st in pass defense and points allowed per game. The Ravens rush defense ranks 30th. The Chiefs are tied for 11th in total defense, tied for 18th in run defense and 10th in pass defense while allowing only 18.7 points per game, ranking nineth. The Chiefs defense ranks 11th in the turnover margin, +1.
Sunday afternoon should be another thrilling Ravens-Chiefs matchup, however the Ravens defense is a liability, while the Chiefs offense finally found its rhythm with their first win of the season Sunday night in New York against the Giants. The Chiefs started the season 0-2 with losses to the Chargers and Eagles. The Ravens two losses have also been to playoff caliber teams in the Bills and Lions.
