The Washington Commanders returned to practice on Wednesday without wide receiver Terry McLaurin.
McLaurin injured his groin in Sunday’s win over the Las Vegas Raiders and departed the game. At the time, the seriousness of the injury wasn’t known because the Commanders held such a big lead that they didn’t need McLaurin to re-enter the game.

However, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network revealed that McLaurin had received a “variety of opinions” on his injury and his status for Washington’s Week 4 game against the Atlanta Falcons was “in doubt.”
Rapoport later revealed that McLaurin visited with Dr. William Meyers, who is considered to be the nation’s leading expert on core muscle injuries. This suggests that McLaurin’s injury is more severe than initially thought.
Meyers is also considered a sports hernia specialist. If that’s the injury, McLaurin would miss significantly more time this season.
Head coach Dan Quinn didn’t reveal too much information on McLaurin’s injury on Wednesday.

“Yeah, it’s pretty normal that when you have something that a second opinion takes place, that’s not uncommon at all,” Quinn said. “Honestly, it’s just the opposite, it’s really common. Almost everybody does that in some spaces. So, I’ll have a better answer as I get into Friday and then we’ll have a sense for, okay, where does it look like for Sunday?”
McLaurin made headlines this summer for his contract dispute with the team. After skipping minicamp and holding out early in training camp, he reported to camp after four days and began a “hold in.” The two sides eventually agreed to a new deal, but he missed all of training camp and the preseason.
We’ll have more on McLaurin throughout the week.
