Over 100 modern-era players have been nominated for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026.

Every year, many players are nominated, but usually fewer than 20 make the final cut and get enshrined. For example, last year’s class featured only four inductees: Eric Allen, Jared Allen, Antonio Gates, and Sterling Sharpe.

In this year’s class, there are several names that have connections to the Washington Commanders. These players either spent the majority of their careers with the Commanders or are better known for their time on other teams, having spent a brief amount of time with Washington.

The full list of players with Washington connections includes:

QB: Rich Gannon, Donovan McNabb, Alex Smith

RB: Shaun Alexander, Larry Centers, Eric Metcalf

WR: Brandon Lloyd, Wes Welker

LB: Thomas Davis, London Fletcher

DB: DeAngelo Hall, Troy Vincent

A couple of these players stand out as the most likely to be inducted: London Fletcher and Brian Mitchell.

Fletcher played for Washington from 2007-13 and earned four Pro Bowl bids and two Second-team All-Pro selections. Fletcher collected 956 tackles, 37 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, and 12 interceptions during his time with Washington. Before coming to Washington, Fletcher won Super Bowl XXXIV as a member of the St. Louis Rams and is already in the College Football Hall of Fame.

Meanwhile, Mitchell is one of the best return men in NFL history. Mitchell played for Washington from 1990-99 and holds the NFL records for total punt returns, total kick returns, total punt return yards, and total kick return yards. Mitchell scored 13 touchdowns as a returner during his illustrious career.

Among the rest of the names, speedy receiver Wes Welker is interesting. Welker is mostly known for his time with the New England Patriots, but he is included here as he is currently an assistant coach on staff. Welker earned five Pro Bowl and two All-Pro selections during his playing career.

Quarterback Donovan McNabb is more known for being a foe of Washington, as he spent the best years of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles. McNabb is unlikely to make the Hall, however, as he never won a Super Bowl and was never the best quarterback in the league.

Rich Gannon is another quarterback who, like McNabb, isn’t exactly known for his time in Washington. However, Gannon actually won an MVP award, so his chances are likely better than McNabb’s, but still unlikely.

Typically, the NFL narrows down the large field later on in the season and then officially announces the class at the NFL Honors event leading up to the Super Bowl. The new class will be formally enshrined in Canton next summer.
