The NFL season is in full swing and the next edition of “Thursday Night Football” features a massive divisional showdown to kick off Week 4.
The Seattle Seahawks (2-1) travel to the desert to battle the Arizona Cardinals (2-1).
Through three weeks, the NFC West is the class of the league, with all four teams boasting a winning record. It’s a bit early to be discussing “must-win” games but with the San Francisco 49ers (3-0) leading the division and the Los Angeles Rams (2-1) also off to a good start, there’s a small margin for error for both sides tonight.
The Seahawks’ lone loss came at the hands of the 49ers in Week 1, but they’ve bounced back with impressive wins against the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints. Free agent signee Sam Darnold and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba spearhead Seattle’s offense. However, their running game has been inefficient, averaging the fourth-fewest yards per carry.
The Cardinals’ loss was also against the 49ers last Sunday. Arizona received a massive blow in the game when starting running back James Conner suffered a foot injury that will end his season.
With the help of tight end Trey McBride and second-year wideout Marvin Harrison Jr., quarterback Kyler Murray will look to produce through the air while Trey Benson will step into a premier role out of the backfield. Benson – also a second-year player – has big shoes to fill as Conner surpassed 1,000 rushing yards in each of the last two seasons. He’ll have his hands full against the Seahawks front-seven who have allowed just 3.2 yards per rush – the third-best in the NFL.
Arizona’s defense has also been a strength allowing 17 points per game this season – fifth-fewest in the NFL. They will hope to dry up Seattle’s offense in the desert tonight.

Cardinals vs. Seahawks prediction
Thursday night matchups tend to be difficult for teams to prepare for and often result in some unattractive performances. With this being a divisional clash between the Cardinals and Seahawks, it could end up being a lackluster clash. Both teams rank inside the top five in scoring defense and have been terrific at stopping their opponents in the red zone. Both sidelines feature defensive head coaches in Mike Macdonald (Seahawks) and Jonathan Gannon (Cardinals).
Seattle has allowed the second-fewest points per game, and they get reinforcements in the form of Julian Love and Devon Witherspoon in the secondary tonight. The Seahawks will take down the Cardinals on the road in a low-scoring affair.
