SANTA CLARA — A few players returned to practice on Thursday following the 49ers’ announcement that Nick Bosa officially had been placed on injured reserve.

Both left tackle Trent Williams and running back Christian McCaffrey returned to the field after a veteran/rest day on Wednesday. Yetur Gross-Matos and Ricky Pearsall also returned after sitting out the day prior, both with knee injuries.

Players who remained off the field during practice were wide receiver Jauan Jennings (shoulder/ankle), wide receiver Jordan Watkins (calf), and CJ West (thumb).

Wide receiver Demarcus Robinson was on the field for his second practice after being activated from the commissioner’s reserve/suspended list, filling in the roster spot opened up by Bosa.

Robinson returned to his place next to Pearsall at the top of all wide receiver drills after being eased into the mix on his first day back on the field.

During the early portion of the on-field session, Brock Purdy resumed his role of taking the first reps of practice for the first time since suffering a toe injury in Week 1. The playcaller looks less limited by the injury than he has in the past.

Mac Jones, on the other hand, looks more restrained by his knee injury than Purdy does by his toe. The Alabama quarterback was seen wearing a compression sleeve on his left knee.

“Good,” Kyle Shanahan said on Wednesday of Purdy’s recovery. “He’s better today than he was on Sunday and hopefully that will keep continuing.”

The coach potentially couldn’t reveal which quarterback will start on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars for the remainder of the week. Both were listed as limited in practice on Wednesday.

Other players who were listed as limited on Wednesday were on the field again on Thursday: cornerback Renardo Green (neck), offensive lineman Connor Colby and cornerback Deommodore Lenoir (illness).
