The Washington Commanders are gearing up for a matchup with the Atlanta Falcons in Week 4.
The Commanders enter the contest with a 2-1 record while the Falcons enter with a 1-2 mark. In Week 3, the Commanders had an incredible performance even without star quarterback Jayden Daniels. Marcus Mariota shined as the starting quarterback and the Commanders escaped with a dominant 41-24 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Through three games, the Commanders have scored 21, 18, and 41 points. The Commanders are seventh in the league in points per game and ninth in yards per game. As a result, it’s fair to assume the Falcons are preoccupied with shutting the Commanders’ high-powered offense down.
Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich spoke with the media ahead of his team’s tough test and offered a glowing, long-winded review of the Kliff Kingsbury offense.
“So it’s a really unique game because it’s just the offense is so voluminous- that’s a good word- that there’s so much stuff,” said Ulbrich. “There’s so much variations of zone read, zone read, bypass zone read. There’s a million different counter-OT gap schemes and a lot of pass game to go with it. So, preparing for all this stuff can get a little overwhelming.”
Clearly, Ulbrich has done his homework. You have to when playing against a Kingsbury-coached team, considering the coach is known as one of the game’s best offensive minds. Washington fans are undoubtedly ecstatic to hear an opposing coach gush over their offense, considering that was not common over the previous decade or so.

“There’s a real physicality, toughness, finish. I mean, they’re a very difficult offense to contain,” Ulbrich continued. “In the last, whatever, 18 months, nobody’s held them for less than 18 points. And that’s saying something in this league. They’ve had tremendous success, and we’re going to have to play our best ball to contain them.”
As Ulbrich pointed out, the Commanders have been a scoring machine over the last year and a half. The team hasn’t scored fewer than 18 points since Week 18 of the 2023 season. Of course, much of that can be attributed to the stellar play of Daniels, but as the team proved last weekend, it can put up points even with a backup quarterback.
The Commanders and Falcons are set to kick off from Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET. With a win, the Commanders would improve to 3-1 with a game against the hot Los Angeles Chargers up next. We don’t know yet if Daniels will be back in Week 4, as the quarterback was a limited participant in practice again on Thursday.
