After addressing their need at left tackle on Thursday night, the New England Patriots added to their running back position on Friday. With the 38th overall pick in the second round, New England has selected Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson.
Henderson, 22, spent his entire four-year college career at Ohio State. Appearing in 47 games with 38 starts, he carried the ball a combined 590 times for 3,761 yards and 42 touchdowns; additionally, he added 77 receptions for 853 yards and 6 more scores.
An All-Big Ten selection every year in Columbus as well as a team captain in 2024, Henderson adds serious big-play ability to the Patriots offense. Combining straight-line speed and explosiveness with vision and cut-back ability, he can take every touch the distance.
The 5-foot-10, 202-pounder furthermore offers advanced route running and pass protection skills, which means that he also should be able to contribute in the passing game from early on in his career. Henderson projects as a change-of-pace and receiving option on a running back depth chart also featuring veterans Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson.
The Patriots are next on the clock at No. 69 overall in the third round.
