The college football schedule this week features several exciting matchups, including an SEC clash between the No. 17 Alabama Crimson Tide and No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs.
Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide are 2-1 to start the year after suffering a disappointing season-opening loss at the hands of the Florida State Seminoles. The team has since responded to this early adversity, notching back-to-back wins over UL Monroe and Wisconsin.
Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs are off to an impressive 3-0 start, beginning the year with wins over Marshall, Austin Peay and Tennessee.
During this week’s episode of the ESPN “College GameDay Podcast,” host Rece Davis and Pete Thamel discussed this highly-anticipated matchup.
Davis, who also hosts ESPN’s “College GameDay” pregame show on Saturdays, predicts a narrow victory for Georgia at Sanford Stadium.
“I think it’s going to be a great game,” Davis said. “… I think Alabama plays great. I think Alabama plays well enough to win, but doesn’t. I’m going to take Georgia to win the game, but I think most of the questions about Alabama will be erased and all of the questions about [Georgia quarterback] Gunnar Stockton… will be erased.”

Georgia recorded its signature win of the season thus far this past Saturday, notching a 44-41 overtime victory over Tennessee at Neyland Stadium. Stockton finished the game with 304 yards and two touchdowns through the air on 23 of 31 passing.
Alabama will return two key players for this matchup: running back Jam Miller and defensive tackle Tim Keenan III. Both players missed each of the Crimson Tide’s first three games with injuries.
“Having Tim Keenan and Jam Miller back, this is going to be a great game,” Davis continued. “Georgia wins. Alabama plays great, which is probably as important as anything for the Tide.”
Saturday’s game between Alabama and Georgia will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET.
