The Atlanta Falcons are sticking with Parker Romo as their starting kicker for Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders, head coach Raheem Morris told reporters this afternoon. Romo, who was signed to the 53-man roster last Friday, missed two field goals in the team’s 30-0 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

On Tuesday. the Falcons signed undrafted free agent kicker Ben Sauls to their practice squad to compete with Romo. Special teams coordinator Marquice Williams said both kickers played well in practice this week, however, Romo gets to keep his job for at least one more game.

Even though Atlanta released Younghoe Koo after missing just one kick (and nearly missing another attempt that bounced off the crossbar) in the team’s season-opening loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, that 44-yard attempt would have sent the game into overtime.

If the Falcons had played better overall against the Panthers, perhaps there would have been a bigger controversy this week. However, Romo did carry Atlanta’s offense in Week 2, going 5-for-5 on field-goal attempts against the Vikings in a 22-6 win.

Sauls remains on the practice squad heading into Week 4, plus Atlanta still has Lenny Krieg on the practice squad as part of the NFL’s International Player Pathway program. Both players could be options going forward if Romo struggles against the Commanders this weekend.

Thus far in 2025, Romo has converted on five of his seven field-goal attempts and made his lone extra point attempt. The Falcons have only scored one touchdown over the last two weeks, so they’ve got bigger problems to figure out heading into Week 4.

As for Koo, he signed with the New York Giants practice squad a few days after being released by Atlanta.

“I want to thank the Falcons organization for giving me an opportunity when no one else would six years ago,” Koo wrote following his release. “This place helped me grow as a kicker and as a man. I will forever be grateful for the support from the fans during my time here.”
