The San Francisco 49ers are 3-0 heading into this weekend despite dealing with injuries to their top players, including fourth-year quarterback Brock Purdy.

Purdy suffered a toe injury during a Week 1 win over the Seattle Seahawks. That kept him out against the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals. Luckily for the 49ers, they had a respectable backup in Mac Jones. In two starts, the former first-round pick from Alabama completed 66.3% of his passes for 563 yards with four touchdowns and an interception.

Unfortunately for the 49ers, Jones aggravated a previous knee injury in last Sunday’s comeback win over the Cardinals. He dealt with a sprained PCL during training camp.

“For me, it’s still a day by day thing, going up to game time, see how I feel. But, I really do think that it’s been good progress and good work. I do just feel better overall, with my body, mentally, attacking this game plan, and being ready, if I’m able to go,” Jones said, via Niners Nation. “Every week, people deal with stuff. Each day, you just assess where you’re at. Having played five years in the NFL, I kind of know where I need to be at. I’m definitely happy with my progress, and the medical staff and everybody.”

Although both quarterbacks are dealing with injuries, the 49ers will have one of them under center for Week 4.

Purdy is back.

On Friday afternoon, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan announced that Purdy will start this Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Purdy has been a limited participant throughout practice this week, which was a pretty good sign that he’s nearing full strength. Clearly, the medical staff feels comfortable with him playing this weekend.

There’s no doubt Purdy’s return will give the 49ers a boost in the passing game. After all, they rewarded the former “Mr. Irrelevant” with a five-year, $265 million extension this past offseason.

Hopefully, Purdy will pick up where he left off when the 49ers take on the Jaguars on Sunday afternoon.
