Former Seattle Seahawks fan favorite and Super Bowl 48 champion Jesse Williams hopes to put the remaining pieces of his life back together after surviving a terrifying heart attack experience.
The Seahawks selected Jesse Williams in the fifth round (137th overall) in 2013. Nicknamed “tha Monstar”, the two-time national champion at Alabama became the first Australian-born NFL player to win a Super Bowl when the Seahawks defeated the Denver Broncos 43-8 in the big game.
Back on Aug. 5, Williams posted on X/Twitter that he had recently had to be hospitalized after suffering a heart attack. Williams was soon discharged and thanked everyone for the well wishes.
In an interview with Karleigh Smith of the Daily Mail, Williams revealed that he suffered a heart attack while hiking alone in Queensland. He called his estranged wife, Tanisha, who stayed on the phone with him until he received medical attention.
Though Williams made a full recovery and is in good spirits, he’s still trying to conquer one more hardship: Fixing hurt emotions and reconciling with Tanisha, the mother of his young daughter.
“She is the only one keeping me six feet above the ground. We have a small baby, who is turning two in February. So I am putting it out into the universe to hopefully get back together.’
‘I would say getting back together is 100 per cent more important than [living] to me. She has probably kept me [alive] for the entire relationship. Nothing bad happened – it wasn’t like, you know, drinking or gambling or anything like that. It was just more emotional wear and tear and stressful life situations. So I am just giving her time and grace to do the things she needs to do.”
The most important thing here is Williams’ health. Thankfully, he noticed the warning signs of a heart attack and got the medical attention he needed to make a full recovery.

Only time will tell if Williams’ wish to reconcile with his ex-wife will succeed. Even if it doesn’t, that doesn’t take away his remarkable courage, strength and resilience that we’ve seen the past 10 years.
After the 2015 season, Jesse Williams was diagnosed with Papillary Type 2 cancer and had to have a kidney removed. This awful health scare came after Williams missed his rookie and sophomore years with knee injuries.
Williams had to miss the entire 2015 season as well and was cut in 2016 before ever playing a snap for the Seahawks. Given his big-game experience and success at Alabama, there’s no telling what kind of difference he might have made on the Seahawks’ legendary “Legion of Boom” defense.
