The Northridge Jaguars faced a tough road test on Friday night, traveling down Highway 82 to take on the Bibb County Choctaws in West Alabama Friday night high school football action.

The Jaguars started hot, scoring on their first possession of the game as Mayson Elam, the Jaguars’ leader at quarterback, found Tate Espey on a fourth-down toss over the middle of the field for a score. It was a quick 7-0 lead for the Jaguars.

However, Bibb County responded less than two minutes later with a score of its own thanks to a 25-yard sprint to the endzone. Northridge showcased why the connection between Elam and Espey is special, as the two connected on an 81-yard catch-and-run touchdown, but a missed PAT only put the Jaguars up 13-7.

Bibb County responded with a 34-yard touchdown pass, and the PAT gave the Choctaws the lead. After a trio of missed field goals (Northridge x2, Bibb County x1), the halftime score was:

Northridge: 13
Bibb County: 14

The missed points would loom large over Northridge in the second half.

Damarcus Wilder got the scoring started in the second half with a one-yard score, and tacked on a two-point conversion to make up for the missed PAT earlier. The Jaguar defense tried to rise to the occasion, but Bibb County punched in a 19-yard touchdown through the air and took a one-point lead after converting the two-point conversion. 22-21 in Bibb County’s favor at the end of the third quarter.

The Northridge defense held twice in the fourth quarter, but the offense sputtered out on the first drive. With less than two minutes to go, Northridge had the ball inside Bibb County’s 30-yard line, but coughed it up. The Choctaws would chew the rest of the clock, and Northridge, once again, fell by a single point after doing so last week.

Final Score:

Northridge – 21
Bibb County – 22
