In the Week 4 matchup between the Jaguars and 49ers, who are the NFL analysts picking to win this game?
The Jacksonville Jaguars may be entering their Week 4 contest with the San Francisco 49ers as the road underdogs, but who do the NFL experts like in this matchup?
The Jaguars are 2-1 coming off a late win over the Houston Texans, headlined by both the offense and defense making critical plays late–something that had tripped them up just one week prior.
San Francisco, meanwhile, is 3-0, and the offense is getting a big boost with head coach Kyle Shanahan announcing that quarterback Brock Purdy will start in this game. He had missed the last two games with a toe injury.
This game features two of the stingiest defenses in the NFL, so the matchup could come down to which offense is better at taking advantage of the opportunities that come their way.
For some added insight into this 49ers team, you can find that here.
But now, let’s see who the experts are picking to win this game.
NFL.com
Four of the five NFL.com selectors are taking the 49ers in this game. Here is why Brooke Cersosimo is picking San Francisco to win.
“I feel like I can still expect to see an efficient Kyle Shanahan-led offense and a ruthless defensive effort from Robert Saleh’s group that will keep San Francisco competitive in most games,” Cersosimo wrote. “There are bigger questions around the Jaguars, a talented jamboree that has yet to get everyone on the same page in the same game.”
ESPN
Another near clean-sweep that isn’t in favor of the Jaguars. Seven of ESPN’s eight staff members who are making these predictions like the 49ers to win. Dan Graziano was the only one to pick Jacksonville.
Bleacher Report
Things are opposite, however, over at Bleacher Report, with five of the seven predictors taking the Jaguars. Here is why Gary Davenport is picking Jacksonville:
“The loss of edge-rusher Nick Bosa was another hammer-blow injury for a 49ers team that has won three games by a combined 10 points,” Davenport wrote.
Pro Football Talk
Mike Florio likes the 49ers to win by a point, while Chris Simms is picking the Jaguars to win by four.
“The 49ers are wounded, but they still know how to grab a win from a team that has a bad habit of giving them away,” Florio wrote.
CBS Sports
Pete Prisco is picking the Jaguars to win a higher scoring game, 29-26.
“Without Nick Bosa, the 49ers defense won’t be the same,” Prisco wrote. “The Jaguars will buck the trend and win in California.”
