Through three games, the Pittsburgh Steelers have the No. 24-ranked passing offense in the NFL. This is despite the addition of quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver DK Metcalf. It isn’t hard to watch the Steelers play and have a pretty good understanding of where the Steelers are struggling and how it can be fixed.
However, when you hear Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger talking about those same things, you sit up and pay attention. If you haven’t had a chance to watch Roethlisberger on his podcast, you are really missing out. Roethlisberger just casually breaks down the Steelers and is almost effortless in offering up perfect input.

In this case, Roethlisberger recognizes that the Steelers have three very good tight ends but they are either misusing them or not using them at all. In the video below, you hear Roethlisberger casually talk through the perfect fix that offensive coordinator Arthur Smith hasn’t thought of.
Through three games, the Steelers have attempted 88 passes. Of those 88 attempts, 13 have gone to Smith, 10 to Freiermuth and 1 to Washington. Combined, they have 19 receptions. Roehtlisberger made it so simple about utilizing these guys more because it is. The middle of the field is there and the short passing game there would take a ton of heat off of quarterback Aaron Rodgers trying to push the ball downhill.
