Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter was fined $11,593 for taunting after he blocked a field goal in the team’s Week 3 win against the Los Angeles Rams, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Carter drew the penalty after pointing at the Rams bench. His mistake was not costly, but it could have hurt the Eagles in a different situation.
Philadelphia needs Carter to stay focused. He could continue to get flagged if he doesn’t stop talking smack or getting into altercations.
In Week 1, Carter spat on quarterback Dak Prescott, which drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and an ejection. Prior to Week 2, Carter was fined $57,222 and chose not to appeal.
“League rules prohibiting unsportsmanlike conduct are of vital importance to everyone involved in the game,” the NFL said in a statement earlier this month.“ The NFL has been clear with players, clubs, and the NFLPA that it plans to place particular emphasis on sportsmanship this season.”
For Carter’s sake, he needs to play under control to stop losing money.
Since Carter has already drawn two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, he will be under the close watch of referees for the rest of the season. Anything he says or does that crosses the line won’t go unnoticed.
