The Washington Commanders made two roster moves on Saturday, ahead of the Week 4 game against the Atlanta Falcons.

For the second consecutive week, cornerback Antonio Hamilton Sr was elevated to the roster. The second move is a first for this season, as wide receiver Tay Martin was elevated to the roster.

With both starters, Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown, out this week due to injuries, it was expected that the Commanders would bring up a receiver. Which one it would be was the question. It is the second consecutive week Brown is ruled out for the Commanders. Martin only has four games of NFL experience. However, it is four more than rookie receivers Ja’Corey Brooks and Jacoby Jones. Consequently, his experience understandably could have been the determining factor at receiver versus the Falcons.

Hamilton is not a surprise. He was needed last week because CB Jonathan Jones had to be placed on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury, which will keep him out for several weeks. Thus, with only three healthy corners on the roster last week, Hamilton was elevated to play against the Raiders. The Commanders, needing at least a fourth corner, understandably are again calling on Hamilton.

Also, Saturday, the Commanders downgraded safety Percy Butler (hip) to out for this Week 4 contest in Atlanta. Consequently, Washington has now announced that five players who started Week 1 and are on the current 53-man roster are out this week against the Falcons. Those five are Butler, Brown, McLaurin, TE John Bates and QB Jayden Daniels. All told, the Commanders are down eight starters who started Week 1, as DE Deitrich Wise, S Will Harris, and RB Austin Ekeler were all lost to season-ending injuries over the last two weeks.
