THE LAST TIME

The Steelers lost a shootout to the Vikings, 36-28, on Dec. 9, 2021 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

The Steelers rallied after facing a 29-0 deficit late in the third quarter. Vikings safety Harrison Smith broke up a pass intended for Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth in the end zone on the final play of the game to secure the win for Minnesota.

Chase Claypool made headlines in the last Steelers-Vikings meeting, and for all the wrong reasons. Claypool was benched by head coach Mike Tomlin after receiving an unnecessary roughness penalty in the first quarter. Claypool also drew criticism for celebrating a first-down catch on the Steelers’ final possession, costing Pittsburgh valuable time.

Vikings running back Dalvin Cook rushed for 205 yards and two touchdowns. Overall, the Steelers defense gave up 458 yards.

STEELERS-VIKINGS SERIES

The Vikings lead the all-time series against the Steelers, 10-9. The Steelers are 2-2 against the Vikings under Mike Tomlin.

Sunday will be the first time a game between two teams has been playing in three different countries. The last time the Steelers played an international game was, coincidentally, against the Vikings on Sept. 29, 2013 in London.

The Steelers beat the Vikings in Super Bowl IX, 16-6, at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans.
