You may consider the San Francisco 49ers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Week 4 game on Sunday the Mac Jones bowl – kind of.
The 2021 first-round pick was a rumored target of the 49ers in that NFL draft, but ultimately, the passer wound up with the Patriots, and later, the Jaguars for a season in 2024.
Jones backed up Trevor Lawrence and wound up starting a few games as Lawrence recovered from injury. Jones played, well, like a backup, throwing seven touchdowns to eight interceptions in 10 games.
Jones finds himself again on the bench, this time with the 49ers, and this time, again under center as a spot starter. With Brock Purdy injured ahead of Week 3, Jones took the reins and helped guide the 49ers to a win against the Cardinals.
Now, Jones looks to lead the 49ers to a win against his hometown team.
