San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall attempted to return after being shaken up in the third quarter of Sunday’s 26-21 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was evaluated for a knee injury and listed as questionable to return, but ultimately chose to sit out the remainder of the game.

The receiver was seen testing his knee on the sidelines, trying to get back into the game. He later explained the decision to remain out.

“I was testing it out,” Pearsall said postgame. “I fell pretty hard on that one play on the sideline, trying to keep my feet in bounds, and I fell pretty hard on my knee. And I was just feeling pain and a little bit of instability, so I wasn’t trying to really mess with it.

“I was moving around. I was working with some of the trainers to try to make it feel better to go back out there. That wasn’t the case for me. I went out for one more play and felt a little bit of pain and a little bit of instability, so I just kinda shut it down from there.”

Pearsall entered Week 4 already managing a knee issue and was listed as questionable before the matchup. Head coach Kyle Shanahan clarified after the game that Sunday’s injury was to Pearsall’s other knee.

When asked about the severity of the setback, Shanahan said, “We’re not sure yet.”

Shanahan also provided updates on additional injuries from the game. Tight end Jake Tonges suffered a stinger in his shoulder but ended up returning to the action.

Wide receiver Jauan Jennings was shaken up after a two-point conversion in the third quarter and diagnosed with a rib injury. He managed to return to the game.

Jennings was questionable entering Week 4 as he was already dealing with shoulder and ankle injuries. When asked if he had concerns about being ready for Thursday night’s matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, he responded, “Nah.”
