The Indianapolis Colts suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday, losing on the road in LA to the Rams 27-20.
After looking back at Sunday’s game, let’s highlight the good, bad, and ugly from the Colts‘ performance.

The good in Colts vs. Rams
Jonathan Taylor and Tyler Warren: The Colts’ two biggest playmakers this season continued to do so on Sunday. It was tough sledding at times, but Taylor totaled 76 yards on the ground and had a big touchdown run negated by a penalty. Warren, meanwhile, had 70 receiving yards and scored his first NFL touchdown.
Pass rush makes some noise: According to PFF’s data, the Colts generated a hefty 32 pressures in this game and came away with four sacks. However, Matthew Stafford’s ability to get the ball out or navigate the pocket in the midst of that pressure helped the Rams’ offense overcome the disruption.
Red zone success: For all the points that the Colts have put up this season, they have actually been very efficient in the red zone, ranking in the bottom third of the NFL in that category. They’ve been able to overcome that, however, because they make so many red zone visits. But against the Rams, the Colts were 2-for-3 in red zone opportunities.

The bad in Colts vs. Rams
Way too many mistakes to overcome: We’ll get to AD Mitchell’s fumble in a second, but beyond that, the Colts had two other turnovers on offense, and they were penalized 11 times for 88 yards in this game.
The Tutu Atwell touchdown: Mekhi Blackmon fell down on this play, which is why Atwell was so wide open. However, that isn’t the reason this is in the bad category. After the game, Cam Bynum said the Colts had only 10 players on the field on that play. Obviously, that cannot happen.
No answers for Puka Nacua: In fairness to the Colts, no one has really had an answer for Nacua this season. However, he put together a particularly monstrous outing against the Colts, totaling 13 receptions on 14 targets for 170 yards and a touchdown. Cornerback Xavien Howard was targeted heavily by Stafford.

The ugly in Colts vs. Rams
AD Mitchell’s fumble: This was eerily similar to Taylor’s fumble last season against Denver. With it looking like the Colts were going to take the lead on what was a very impressive catch and run by Mitchell, he fumbled the ball out of the end zone. That not only took seven points off the board in a game that the Colts lost by seven, but the Rams then took possession.
