HUNTERTOWN — It’s always nice to send the Homecoming Night crowd home happy with a win.

The Carroll High School football team did just that Sept. 26, getting out to a big early lead over South Side and cruising in the second half to a 42-6 win over the Archers.

The Chargers amassed 329 yards in total offense on the night. Junior quarterback Gabe Frisinger completed 18-of-29 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. Jaedon Van Pelt was his favorite target with seven catches for 84 yards and a TD. Harrison Scheele added five catches for 43 yards and a TD.

The Chargers (3-3 overall, 3-1 SAC) blew this one open in the second quarter after leading just 7-0 at the first stop. Carroll scored three times in the second stanza and led 28-0 at halftime.

Carroll head coach Doug Dinan said his team picked it up nicely after a sluggish start.

“We weren’t as sharp as we could have been,” Dinan said.

Getting rolling and putting up major points the rest of the way led to the running clock in the second half, which kicks in when a team is leading by 35 points or more.

That means getting valuable varsity playing time for reserves.

“I thought we did a really nice job on defense,” Dinan added.

Coleman Tipton keyed the Carroll defense with nine tackles, including one for loss. Liam Keays added six tackles.

The night ended with a big fireworks show. Romeo Macias and Zaraab Habib were chosen as Homecoming royalty.

Carroll is back in action Oct. 3 at home against rival Homestead. Kickoff at Charger Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
