January 31st, 2024 – the Seattle Seahawks officially hired former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald to become their next head coach. It turns out this was a date that may have drastically altered the fates of both franchises. After 14 incredible years with Pete Carroll, the Seahawks made the difficult decision to move on from their Hall of Fame caliber head coach who had delivered them a Super Bowl in favor of a young upstart in Macdonald. It was a decision the Ravens are probably currently wishing they had done with John Harbaugh while Macdonald was still an employee of the organization.

We are 21 games into Mike Macdonald’s tenure in Seattle, and already he’s accomplished the No. 1 thing he was hired to do: fix this defense. The Seahawks defense is once again fast, physical and stingy. Seattle’s defensive line is an absolute terror and the overall unit is the backbone to the team. Meanwhile, “defense” has become somewhat optional in Baltimore.

The Ravens are a shocking 1-3 to start the season and their defense is a major reason why. Baltimore blew a 40-25 lead in Buffalo to lose 41-40 to the Bills in Week 1. A blowout win over the lowly Browns in Week 2 did little to right the ship, as Baltimore went on to surrender 38 points to the Lions at home in Week 3 and 37 to the Chiefs in Kansas City this past Sunday. Both were losses. Sometimes in life you can judge a person’s impact at work by how things look after they leave. Well, in this case, Mike Macdonald might be getting Coach of the Year votes if Ravens fans could have their say.

The Baltimore faithful have certainly been letting their opinions on the topic be shared loud and clear on social media.

Of course, not everyone is distraught over Mike Macdonald leaving Baltimore. Namely, the 12th Man and players on the Seattle Seahawks. Perhaps the funniest example was rookie safety Nick Emmanwori liking a post by a Ravens fan lamenting the loss of Macdonald.
