Through the first four games of the 2025 NFL season, Chicago Bears starting running back D’Andre Swift has just 187 rushing yards with 56 carries.

That’s just 3.3 yards per run behind an offensive line that, before Week 4’s matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders, was No. 1 in the NFL in yards before contact per RB run at 1.89.

If the Bears don’t want to incorporate more of Roschon Johnson and Kyle Monangai in the offense, then maybe it’s best to look elsewhere via trade to push Swift out of the starting spot. One player that makes sense is a trade for New Orleans Saints’ running back Kendre Miller.

Bears Should Pursue a Trade for Saints’ Kendre Miller

Kendre Miller, the Saints’ 2023 third-round pick, is in a similar boat compared to Roschon Johnson. Both were 2023 mid-round picks who haven’t had an opportunity to contribute on offense. However, Miller had an uptick in carries against the Buffalo Bills during Week 4 with 65 rushing yards and one touchdown.

ESPN’s Katherine Terrell labeled Miller as the “most surprising performance” for the Saints in Week 4, writing, “Miller had 65 rushing yards against the Bills, the second-most in his career. He also had his first touchdown of the season and a third-down conversion. Miller played in only six games last year, so this game could represent an upward trend for his usage.”

Miller is a big back who can break tackles and could benefit from running behind Chicago’s offensive line. The Bears would certainly love to have a running back like Miller on the squad, but the question is, would the Saints be interested in trading him away, or another running back on the team?

There’s a chance that the Saints, despite being 0-4 to start the season, will want to keep Kendre Miller on the team.

It’s valid, considering he’s young and has plenty of untapped potential. However, that could open the door for the Bears to target another running back on the Saints, Alvin Kamara.

Despite being on the older end at 30, Kamara has the versatility and experience to immediately become a focal point of the Bears’ run game. He still has plenty of gas left in the tank, and the Saints could be willing to deal him away instead of Miller. The Bears could even package Swift in the trade if the Saints want an RB back.

Last Word on Potential Bears-Saints Trade

Whether the Saints will be willing to trade Kendre Miller or Alvin Kamara, the Bears should be calling to inquire about the availability of both running backs. Each of them offers a unique skill set that the Bears could benefit from, since they don’t want to incorporate Roschon Johnson or Kyle Monangai more on offense.

Even if the Bears still keep Swift and use him, adding Miller or Kamara will only push him to be better, and if Swift doesn’t improve, then there will be a new starting running back in Chicago.
