A.J. Brown posted a cryptic message on social media after the Eagles’ star wide receiver had another frustrating game in Sunday’s win over the Buccaneers.
Brown’s message — which stated to “quietly withdraw” if you’re “not welcomed, not listened to” — sparked further speculation that the playmaker is unhappy in Philadelphia.
On Monday, head coach Nick Sirianni was asked about Brown’s post — and, more broadly, the All-Pro receiver’s willingness to be a member of the team moving forward.
“Obviously A.J. is very important to this football team,” Sirianni said. “I know he wants to contribute and do the things he’s capable of doing. He wants to contribute to these wins, and there’s been a couple games where he hasn’t been able to for different reasons.
“I question nothing about his desire to play great football, his desire to be a great teammate and his desire to be here.”
Sirianni added that he tries to speak to Brown (and all of his players) on a daily basis and prioritizes “constant communication.”
Sirianni’s message comes after Brown was held to two catches for seven yards in the Eagles’ 31-25 win over the Bucs. Brown did not speak to reporters in the visiting locker room at Raymond James Stadium after yet another disappointing personal showing.
After the game, Brown shared a Bible verse, Mark 6:11 to be exact, on social media.
“If you’re not welcomed, not listened to, quietly withdraw,” Brown posted. “Don’t make a scene. Shrug your shoulders and be on your way.”
Brown has only 14 catches for 151 yards through four games this season. He broke out with 109 yards on six catches in the second half of the Eagles’ Week 3 comeback vs. the Rams. But with that half removed, Brown has eight catches for 42 yards in 14 quarters.
That’s not the production Brown or Eagles fans would like from the three-time All-Pro — a lack of production that’s fueling unsubstantiated rumors that Brown could be traded.
Brown “drew some interest months ago” from several NFL teams looking to upgrade at wide receiver, according to a report from The Athletic a couple weeks ago. General manager Howie Roseman’s message to teams inquiring about Brown’s availability? “No dice.”
Perhaps Brown will shed more light on his social media post and its meaning on Wednesday, which is the first day of open locker room access for the media at the NovaCare Complex.
