“I’m feeling strong and optimistic, and I’m committed to seeing this through to a positive outcome,” Mara says in the statement.
“I plan to remain active with the team throughout my treatment, and I’m fortunate to be surrounded by incredible support—personally, professionally, and medically. I ask that you respect my privacy and my family’s privacy at this time.”
Mara has been a part of the New York Giants organization for 34 years, as per ESPN, and he has held the position of President and CEO since 2005.
The Giants would go on to win the Super Bowl in 2007, two years after Mara became President and CEO. They would go on to win the Super Bowl again four years later in 2011.
Mara had also spent 14 years in New York’s front office before becoming President and CEO, having first become a member of the general counsel in 1991, as per Yahoo Sports.
In September 2025, the Mara family agreed to sell a 10% stake in the New York Giants to the Koch family in a deal that is pending approval from the league and the rest of the NFL’s owners.
