The Minnesota Vikings are trying to looking to make the playoffs while still developing young quarterback J.J. McCarthy. Unfortunately, McCarthy has missed the last two games with an ankle sprain.
The Vikings and veteran quarterback Carson Wentz have gone 1-1 in McCarthy’s absence, with the young quarterback now designated as day-to-day. Unfortunately, when he returns, he’ll have to make due without a key offensive lineman, according to one prominent league insider.
“The MRI has confirmed that #Vikings RT Brian O’Neill sprained his MCL on Sunday, taking him off the field. He’s week-to-week, but no surgery is required. Coach Kevin O’Connell had indicated this was the case,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Fans reacted to the brutal news on soical media.
“Thank god, there’s still hope JJM can get some reps behind a functional OL at some point this season,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Thank Jesus. Back after the bye? Season not completely cooked now,” someone else added.
“Whew. But we still need another good offensive lineman. We just missed out on Cam Robinson,” another fan added.
“Their o line is cooked. Too bad they can take 50 knees, punt the entire time and still win 10-7 this week,” one Cleveland Browns fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Vikings replace O’Neill’s production.
