The Atlanta Falcons have released defensive lineman Junior Aho, according to team reporter Tori McElhaney. The transaction comes following Day 1 of Atlanta’s rookie minicamp. Aho was a member of the team’s practice squad in 2024 but did not appear in a regular season game.
The Falcons signed Aho to a reserve/future contract at the start of the year along with several other former practice squad players. Prior to joining Atlanta last season, the former SMU standout was on the Carolina Panthers and Minnesota Vikings.
The Falcons also signed four of their five draft picks, including former Georgia star Jalon Walker and third-rounder Xavier Watts. The only remaining unsigned rookie is James Pearce Jr., but we wouldn’t expect the wait to go on for much longer.
Head coach Raheem Morris held a press conference on Friday and discussed the importance of getting the team’s rookies more involved this season.
“Make no mistake about it, we’re going to have some real intentionality about playing our rookies this year,” said Morris. “Getting those guys on the grass and giving them an opportunity to play a significant amount of football for us.”
