The Miami Dolphins’ season already wasn’t going great, and then their star receiver was on the sideline with a dislocated knee injury, head coach Mike McDaniel said postgame.

Hill also reportedly tore multiple ligaments in his knee, including his ACL, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Hill underwent surgery on Tuesday, which his agent said “went very well.” Another surgery is not needed, and Hill will now start focusing on his rehab in an effort to be ready to play again by the start of next season.

“The surgery went well,” Rosenhaus told WSVN’s Josh Moser. “All of the torn ligaments, the injuries went back into place. There is no nerve damage, there is no blood flow issues or broken bones and his knee cartilage is fine. The goal is for him to be ready next season.”

The injury is expected to keep him out the entire 2025 season, with the start of 2026 now being questionable due to the extent of the injury, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Despite the injury, and potentially lengthy recovery timeline, Hill was in good spirits Tuesday. Hill posted a video via social media before heading in for surgery, thanking Dolphins fans and his followers for all the prayers and support following the injury.

Tyreek Hill was having a good game and the Dolphins led the New York Jets on Monday night when Hill went down with graphic injury. He was tackled on the sideline, with a defender landing on his leg. The broadcast showed Hill on the ground with his lower leg pointed in the wrong direction. The Dolphins, who won 27-21, ruled him out shortly afterward.

Hill was taken to a local hospital for imaging, evaluation and observation, and would be hospitalized overnight, McDaniel said, per media reports.

The “Monday Night Football” broadcast on ESPN said the athletic training staff cut off Hill’s cleat, then stabilized his leg. ESPN also reported that Hill’s mother came down to the field before he was loaded on a cart and taken back to the locker room in a cast.

Hill had a rough 2024 season and said he wanted out of Miami after the season finale, but that was smoothed over and he was off to a decent start to the 2025 season. Hill had 198 yards in Miami’s first three games and had 67 more Monday before suffering the injury in the third quarter. In 2022 and 2023, Hill’s first two seasons with the Dolphins after he was traded by the Kansas City Chiefs to Miami, he was arguably the best receiver in the NFL. He had more than 1,700 yards in back-to-back seasons. He had a down season last season at age 30, and depending on the severity of the injury, it might be tough for him to rebound in 2026 at age 32.

The Dolphins started 0-3 before Monday’s win, fueling speculation that Hill might be traded. After Monday, the concern for Hill will be when he can return.
