According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the Detroit Lions are signing veteran cornerback Tre Flowers to their practice squad.
Flowers, 30, now joins his seventh NFL team after stints with the Seattle Seahawks — who drafted him in 2018 — along with the Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears.
Over his seven-year career, Flowers has recorded 287 tackles, four interceptions, five forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries in 95 games, including 44 starts. His addition gives the Lions another experienced defender they could call up in the coming weeks as the team manages a thin secondary.
In Sunday’s 34-10 win over the Cleveland Browns, starting cornerbacks Terrion Arnold and D.J. Reed both left the game in the second half with injuries.
Arnold suffered an upper-body injury in the third quarter but was able to walk off under his own power. Reed sustained a hamstring injury early in the fourth quarter that required him to be carted off the field.
With Arnold expected to miss at least a week and Reed sidelined longer, Lions coach Dan Campbell acknowledged the need for added depth.
“Yeah, I think we would look for somebody for help,” Campbell said Monday. “I haven’t talked to (general manager) Brad (Holmes) yet about all of this. So, we will discuss this, but we may need somebody for help for practice at a minimum.”
Flowers’ most recent stint came with the Bears, who signed him in July. He failed to make the 53-man roster out of training camp but was re-signed to the practice squad before being released on Sept. 9.
