Boise State head coach Spencer Danielson is adamant that Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr will be “a future first-round draft pick” following his impressive start to the season.
Danielson is preparing to take his side to South Bend for the first time in the program’s history on Saturday when the Broncos (3-1), who come into the game off three successive victories, aim to cause an upset against their No. 21-ranked hosts.
In its most recent game, a 47–14 win over Appalachian State, Boise State cornerback Jaden Mickey, formerly of Notre Dame, suffered a concussion, prompting a classy speech from Marcus Freeman. The Fighting Irish head coach has also revealed his plans to stop Boise State’s run game this weekend.

Following Saturday’s blowout victory over Arkansas, Freeman raved about his 20-year-old quarterback, Carr, highlighting his team-first mentality and intense competitiveness as factors that will help Notre Dame achieve all its goals in 2025.
On Monday, he reiterated those claims, stating how Carr is at a “rare” point in his career. “It’s rare to be a second-year college football player playing in your fifth game and performing at a level he’s performing at. It’s rare, but I think CJ Carr is rare,” Freeman said.
Danielson has also offered his own glowing verdict of Carr ahead of Saturday’s game, going as far as to predict that he will be a first-round draft pick during this week’s press conference.

“CJ (Carr), their quarterback, he’s going to be a future first-round draft pick,” Danielson told reporters. “I don’t think I’m the first one that will say that. He has that type of potential and he has that type of leadership, accuracy. That’s who he is as a quarterback.”
Later in the press conference, Danielson was asked to follow up on his comments about Carr, and what exactly it is that impresses him about the Notre Dame quarterback.
“First off, he can make every throw. He’s extremely athletic, can run, make every throw, but for a freshman, I am extremely impressed with his decision-making,” Danielson said.
“I mean, he gives the ball exactly where it should be, on time, where it should go, he runs a pro-style offense that has a lot of shifts and motions and complications to it, and he operates at a very, very high level.
Carr was unstoppable against Arkansas over the weekend
“He’s obviously played in big-time games and played really, really well, so I’m very, very impressed with CJ. He’s gonna be a first-round draft pick when he leaves college. I mean, that’s not just my opinion; he deserves that.”
Following his performance against Arkansas, Notre Dame fans backed Carr to win the Heisman Trophy in 2025 and insisted that he would already be in the running if his last name were “Manning”.
The Fighting Irish quarterback has only started four games for Freeman’s side, but has already impressed with his performances this season, most notably during Saturday’s blowout victory over the Razorbacks as he went 22-for-30 for 354 yards and four touchdowns.
