Midway through the second quarter of a Monday Night Football clash with the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 4, Denver Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims scored on a 16-yard touchdown run to make it 14-3.

After the game, Mims credited rookie receiver Pat Bryant for making the play possible with a key block.

“[It was] just an end-around. Pat Bryant, huge, important block,” Mims said. “Smoked a guy coming down. Without him, I probably would have been negative two yards and on my back probably crying. So shoutout to him. It was a good play.”

Bryant (6-2, 204 pounds) was a third-round pick in this year’s NFL draft out of Illinois. He’s had a relatively quiet start to his NFL career with two catches for 18 yards through four games, but his blocking has not gone unnoticed:

That willingness to do the important dirty work will undoubtedly earn Bryant more opportunities as he competes for more playing time in coach Sean Payton’s offense.

NFL Network’s Brian Baldkinger loved the rookie’s execution:

Baldinger noted that the “best part” was Mims going straight to Bryant to celebrate with him first after the touchdown: “That’s beautiful.”

This is how Mims’ father reacted to the play on Twitter/X:

After the game, the Broncos filmed Mims and Bryant reacting to a replay of the play:

“Easy money, baby,” Bryant told Mims. “I ain’t lie, it was either him or you. I chose him.” To which Mims replied, “I appreciate that.”

Fellow receiver Courtland Sutton also delivered a key block on J.K. Dobbins’ run that put him over 100 yards on Monday:

Football is the ultimate team sport, and Denver’s receivers making big plays as blockers helped the Broncos produce their first 100-yard rusher since 2022 on Monday. His receiving numbers might not be flashy so far, but Bryant’s blocking was key in the team’s win against Cincinnati, and his role will likely increase going forward.
