VERY SPECIAL MEMORY FOR THEM, JUST LIKE A DREAM. IT WAS MAGICAL FOR KERRY WARNER, VISITING IRELAND WAS A LIFELONG DREAM. MY MOM AND I. THE WHILE I WAS GROWING UP, IT WAS ONE OF OUR THINGS THAT WE ALWAYS WANTED TO GO TO IRELAND TOGETHER, AND MY MOM PASSED AWAY AT THE END OF LAST YEAR, AND WHEN THIS OPPORTUNITY CAME ABOUT, IT WAS LIKE KIND OF LIKE IT WAS MEANT TO BE. SO WHEN SHE AND HER BOYFRIEND, BRIAN TOTH FOUND OUT ABOUT THE STEELERS GAME AT CROKE PARK, THE LIFELONG FANS KNEW THEY HAD TO GO. BRIAN SAYS HE ALSO KNEW IT WAS THE PERFECT TIME TO POP THE QUESTION. THE DAYS LEADING UP TO THE GAME WERE FULL OF BLACK AND GOLD AND GREEN. YOU KNOW, EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK, YOU KNOW, YOU SEE STEELER FANS, YOU SEE STEELER BANNERS AND STUFF, JUST LIKE KIND OF ELECTRIC ATMOSPHERE, LIKE THE WHOLE TIME. SATURDAY THEY VISITED THE CLIFFS NEAR DUBLIN. BRIAN SAYS IT HAD BEEN RAINING, BUT HE’D ALSO BEEN CARRYING AROUND THE RING ALL WEEK, AND HE KNEW IT WAS TIME. HE SAID, YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU, RIGHT? AND HE GOT DOWN ON HIS KNEE AND BROUGHT OUT THE RING BOX AND I WAS LIKE, OH MY GOD, IT WAS AMAZING. IT WAS LIKE A FAIRY TALE. THEN KERRY HAD SOME EXTRA BLING TO BRING INTO THE GAME. HER ENGAGEMENT RING, NOW NEXT TO HER TRADITIONAL IRISH CLADDAGH RING, WHICH YOU FACE A CERTAIN DIRECTION BASED ON YOUR RELATIONSHIP STATUS. I GOT TO TURN IT BACKWARDS BECAUSE NOW WE’RE ENGAGED. THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE TIED IN A PERFECT BOW WITH A BIG STEELERS WIN OVER THE VIKINGS. EVERYBODY WAS EXCITED FOR THE GAME AND THEN TO WIN IT, YOU KNOW, IN A PRETTY DRAMATIC FASHION. IT WAS JUST A LOT OF FUN. KERRY AND BRIAN SAY IF THE STEELERS HAD BACK TO IRELAND AGAIN, THEY WILL ABSOLUTELY BE THERE.

DUBLIN —

Many Western Pennsylvanians traveled to Ireland and watched the Pittsburgh Steelers win the first regular-season NFL game ever played in the country.

For two Steelers fans, the trip came with another unforgettable memory: an engagement.

“Just like a dream,” said bride-to-be Carrie Wenner. “It was magical.”

For Wenner, visiting Ireland was a lifelong dream.

“My mom and I, while I was growing up, it was one of our things that we always wanted to go to Ireland together, and my mom passed away at the end of last year,” she said. “When this opportunity came about, it was kind of like it was meant to be.”

When she and her boyfriend, Brian Toth, learned about the Steelers game at Croke Park in Dublin, the lifelong fans knew they had to go. Toth also knew it was the perfect time to propose.

“Everywhere you look, you see Steeler fans, you see Steeler banners and stuff,” Toth said. “It was just like, kind of an electric atmosphere the whole time.”

On Saturday, the couple visited Howth Cliffs. Toth said it was raining and he had been carrying the ring all week. He decided it was the right time.

“He said, ‘You know I love you, right?'” Wenner said. “And he got down on his knee and brought out the ring box, and I was like — oh my God, it was amazing. It was like a fairy tale.”

So, she had some extra sparkle in the stadium.

Wenner’s engagement ring is now on the finger next to her traditional Irish claddagh ring, which faces a certain direction depending on relationship status.

“I got to turn it backwards because now we’re engaged,” she said.

The couple tied the bow on their once-in-a-lifetime trip with a Steelers victory over the Vikings.

“Everybody was excited for the game, and then to win it in a pretty dramatic fashion, it was just a lot of fun,” Toth said.
