We know how the local media and fan base reacted to the Washington Commanders‘ Week 4 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, but how does a more neutral source, such as Pro Football Focus (PFF), react to the Commanders‘ 34-27 loss?

Here a few observations from the PFF review of the Commanders Week 4 loss, citing analyst Trevor Sikkema.

At the very beginning, Sikkema actually was laughing, saying, “Atlanta Falcons: Boy, just get shut out by the Panthers and then just a shootout with the Commanders the next week, Falcons are a funny team.”

The Commanders’ pass coverage grade through four games is 42.9, dead last in the NFL. “They have been dead last or in the bottom three, every week of this season. They’ve given up 285+ passing yards in three of the four games they’ve played.” Sikkema

The Commanders’ coverage grades for their first four games: vs NYG 58.6, at Packers 29.8, vs Raiders 51.2, at Falcons 39.5. “They don’t have a single game this season where they have graded in coverage at 60. You are destined to lose at that point. ” Sikkema

“Bobby Wagner has a high football IQ; but he is just not as fast as he used to be. Frankie Luvu is much more of a physical linebacker than he is necessarily a coverage linebacker. And the corners and safeties aren’t really playing well together, and they’ve given up a ton of passing yards.” Sikkema

“It’s tough for me to say this team (Commanders) is going to win more than 9.5 games. So, on a 9.5 over/under line right now, I’d be selling that. I think until their defense totally swings in a much more favorable direction, I’m going to be worried about this team every single week.” Sikkema
