Anthony Richardson isn’t a name that comes up often as a quarterback trade target for the Cincinnati Bengals.

With Joe Burrow hurt and Jake Browning struggling, one rumor hinted the Bengals looked around Russell Wilson. Otherwise, names like Jameis Winston and Kirk Cousins come up.

Richardson with the Indianapolis Colts seems like a no-go. But perhaps it’s worth pointing out that, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the former fourth-overall pick is “open” to a trade.

Draft status aside, the Indianapolis Colts aren’t going to be able to get much for Richardson, given how he’s tanked his stock over the last few years.

Daniel Jones is now the starter for the Colts and Richardson has officially appeared in just 16 games as a pro, completing 50.6 percent of his passes with 11 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, plus 634 yards and 10 scores as a rusher.

While Richardson might seek a chance to be a long-term starter elsewhere, the best he might get is a gig with a desperate team like the Bengals. And like some of the veterans named above, there’s some allure to seeing if he can’t come in and open up the offense a little bit while playing with names like Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

A long shot even compared to the veterans like Wilson and Cousins, the fact Bengals fans have to speculate around any quarterback names at the start of October is unfortunate, if nothing else. Seeing a fresh face come in and provide a spark to keep the rest of the season entertaining is certainly worth discussing, though.
