The New York Jets will be without running back Braelon Allen for a long time.
ESPN’s Rich Cimini revealed on Thursday, October 2, that the team will place Allen on injured reserve.
“Surgery is possible. Still being evaluated. Too early to say if it’s season-ending, though this appears to be more than just a 4-week return. Jets will make a corresponding roster move,” Cimini explained.

Jets Have to Prepare for Life in 2025 Without Allen in the Picture
Head coach Aaron Glenn discussed earlier in the week that Allen being placed on IR was a possibility, but he didn’t want to speak on it before they got the full medical information.
However, he did confirm that it was a “serious” knee injury. Allen being placed on injured reserve meant that he would have to miss a minimum of four games. That would have taken him out through the team’s Week 9 bye week.
Cimini noted that this “appears” to be an injury that will take him out for even longer than that. Allen being placed on IR opens up a spot on the 53-man roster for the Jets. They will have to make a corresponding roster move.
Allen, 21, entered the league as the No. 134 overall pick in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL draft. He has appeared in 21 games and has made two starts. Allen has collected 410 rushing yards, has averaged 3.7 yards per clip, and has scored three rushing touchdowns.
On top of his rushing abilities, Allen has also proven capable in the passing game. He has 21 receptions for 165 receiving yards and a touchdown through the air.
Next Man up for the Jets in the Backfield
Allen provided the perfect complement to Breece Hall in the backfield. It was a salt and pepper, mac and cheese, yin and yang type of relationship.
Allen, listed at 6-foot-1 and tipping the scales at 235 pounds, brought a physical element to the Jets‘ rushing attack. Hall provides unique elusiveness, home run threat ability, and elite speed.
It was the perfect combo. Now the Jets will have to find a different Robin to go with Hall’s Batman.
The most likely guy to step up on the roster is Isaiah Davis.
This is a developing story and we’ll provide new details as they become available.
