The Seattle Seahawks have options at cornerback. Devon Witherspoon continues to be the star in the position room. The re-signed Josh Jobe is playing well. Waiver wire claims addition Derion Kendrick has impressed when afforded opportunities this season. If anyone at cornerback is struggling for the Seahawks, it’s Riq Woolen.

On Wednesday, head coach Mike Macdonald was asked about possibly shuffling things at cornerback. Very specifically, Macdonald was asked about Kendrick playing more snaps at nickel corner, with Witherspoon moving outside. Seattle’s head coach sounded totally open to the idea, responding with a resounding, “yeah.”

Kendrick played extensively in Weeks 2 and 3. The Seahawks were dealing with injuries to Witherspoon and safety Julian Love in the latter game. In those two showcases, Kendrick allowed less than 50 percent of the targets thrown in his direction to be converted into receptions (4-of-9), recorded two interceptions and three pass breakups.

Despite that, Kendrick didn’t appear in Week 4. The regular trio of Witherspoon, Jobe, and Woolen dominated snaps. That wasn’t necessarily fair to Kendrick, who has earned more opportunities. It sounds like Macdonald is prepared to recognize that.

Woolen has been the subject of recent trade rumors. If he’s dealt, Macdonald sounds open to Witherspoon replacing him at boundary corner, with Kendrick filling in at nickel. Because Kendrick is playing well, the Seahawks have options at cornerback. Coach Macdonald is open to exploring possibilities.
