Union-Endicott High School grad and retired NFL defensive lineman Arthur Jones has died at the age of 39, the Baltimore Ravens announced Oct. 3. No information was provided on the cause of his death.

Jones is the brother of former NFL defensive end Chandler Jones, and Jon Jones, former UFC light heavyweight champion.

Arthur Jones was drafted out of Syracuse University in 2010 by the Baltimore Ravens and won the Super Bowl with that team after the 2012 season, capping a postseason in which he contributed nine tackles, a sack and a team-leading two fumble recoveries for a defense that forced 10 turnovers in four playoff games.

Jones was “a tremendous player and even better person,” Syracuse University Director of Athletics John Wildhack said in a statement on the university website. “He was someone that brought joy to everyone he encountered. We were fortunate that Arthur continued to support our football program after his playing career. He impacted many of our student-athletes, always with a smile and uplifting message. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones. He will be forever Orange.”

He also played for the Indianapolis Colts from 2014-16. He made 53 tackles, 4 for loss and 1.5 sacks, for the Colts and also spent a season with the Washington Commanders before retiring in 2018.

“We are terribly saddened to learn of Arthur Jones’ sudden passing,” Baltimore Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta said in a statement posted on the team’s website.

“Arthur’s presence was a gift to everyone he encountered. His big, bright smile, infectious energy and eternal positivity created a presence that continuously uplifted others. He was kind, courteous and enthusiastic — always displaying a love for family, teammates and friends.”
