As if a 1-3 start to the season wasn’t deflating enough, the Baltimore Ravens have lost star quarterback Lamar Jackson to an injury.
Jackson, a two-time MVP, suffered a hamstring injury during last Sunday’s blowout loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He had 147 passing yards, 48 rushing yards, a touchdown and an interception before being replaced by veteran signal-caller Cooper Rush.

Just a few days ago, the Ravens were unwilling to rule out Jackson for their Week 5 showdown with the Houston Texans. After sitting out every practice this week, it has become clear that he won’t be able to play this Sunday.
Moments ago, the Ravens officially ruled out Jackson for Sunday’s game against the Texans. It’ll mark his first missed game due to injury since 2022.
Jackson isn’t the only marquee player ruled out for Week 5. The Ravens will also be without fullback Patrick Ricard, cornerback Marlon Humphrey, offensive tackle Emory Jones Jr. linebacker Roquan Smith

What does this mean for the Ravens?
With Jackson out this Sunday, the Ravens will ask Rush to lead their offense. He has a 9-5 record as a starter with 3,515 passing yards, 20 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
“Obviously, as athletic as ‘Coop’ is, some of those things are not going to look the same as Lamar,” Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken said. “But that doesn’t mean you can’t still be effective and efficient.”

The Ravens won’t ask Rush to carry their offense this weekend. That burden will fall on the shoulders of All-Pro running back Derrick Henry, who has 284 rushing yards and three touchdowns this season.
If the Ravens want to upset the Texans this weekend, Henry needs to have a vintage performance.
Kickoff for the Texans-Ravens game is at 1 p.m. ET.
