SALT LAKE CITY — The Payson Lions shocked the Wasatch Wasps with a late comeback in week eight of 5A high school football on Friday.

The first three quarters of the game were dominated by the Wasps. Wasatch led 10-0 after one, 19-0 after two, and 33-16 after three. But it isn’t over until it’s over.

Trevyn Wall, Carson Wall, and David Fullmer all got into the end zone in the final quarter and lifted the Lions to their first win of the season, 37-33.

West Jordan Jaguars 0 @ No. 8 West Panthers 63

The West Panthers continued their recent string of dominance, stomping the West Jordan Jaguars at home in week eight. Quarterback Kamden Lopati threw six touchdowns to five different receivers in the win. Junior WR Junior Dixon caught two TDs from Lopati.

Taylorsville Warriors 21 @ Kearns Cougars 14

The Taylorsville Warriors scored 14 points in the fourth quarter of their win over the Kearsn Cougars on Friday. The late comeback gave the Warriors their first win of the season.

Hunter Wolverines 0 @ No. 22 Granger Lancers 54

The Granger Lancers scored 10 or more points in three quarters of their win over the Hunter Wolverines on Friday. Senior Uli Figiel was all over the field on both ends for Granger. He finished with two receiving touchdowns, a pick-six, and also booted in two extra point attempts.

Cyprus Pirates 7 @ Hillcrest Huskies 28

The Hillcrest Huskies picked up their second win of the season as they took on the Cyprus Pirates on Friday. It was a balanced attack as well, four different players got into the end zone for Hillcrest. Quarterback K’Von Houston had three passing TDs.

Northridge Knights @ Roy Royals

The game between Northridge and Roy was postponed to Saturday morning at 10 a.m. due to inclement weather in the area. The Lakers led 19-7 when the game was called short.

No. 10 Fremont Silverwolves 48 @ No. 20 Box Elder Bees 30

The Fremont Silverwolves’ offense was on fire in a win over the Box Elder Bees on Friday. Salesi Moa had three receiving touchdowns for the Silverwolves. Fremont’s Cade Hadley added two more scores on the ground.

Clearfield Falcons @ Bonneville Lakers

The game between Clearfield and Bonneville was postponed to Saturday evening at 5 p.m. due to inclement weather in the area. The Royals led 7-0 when the game was called short.

Region 6

No. 21 Brighton Bengals 28 @ No. 18 Woods Cross Wildcats 21

The Brighton Bengals held off a late push from the Woods Cross Wildcats to return to .500 on the season. Bruighton scored 14 unanswered points in the first, and that lead allowed them to hold on down the stretch. Cole Heemeyer had a receiving and rushing TD in the win.

Alta Hawks 31 @ Bountiful Redhawks 42

After an explosive first half, the Bountiful Redhawks controlled the pace after the break and cruised to a win over the Alta Hawks. Quarterback Tucker Brown has five passing touchdowns. Three different Redhawks players had two or more touchdowns. Evan Morton and Siaki Fekitoa each had two, and Trevyn Fabrizio had three.

Viewmont Vikings 0 @ Olympus Titans 24

The Olympus Titans shut out their opponent for the second time this season, holding the Viewmont Vikings scoreless in week eight. Quarterback Preston Ferran had two passing touchdowns and added a third with his legs. Both of the scores through the air went to Adam Bywater.

No. 11 Orem Tigers 50 @ Pleasant Grove Vikings 7

The Orem Tigers surpassed the 40-point mark for the fourth time this season as they defeated the Pleasant Grove Vikings on Friday. The Tigers scored 21 points in each of the first two quarters. Orem quarterback Tayden Ka’awa threw five touchdowns in the win.

No. 13 Springville Red Devils 28 @ Timpview Thunderbirds 0

The Springville Red Devils took care of business against the Timpview Thunderbirds in week eight. After the game started with a Siaosi Toki pick-six, the tone was set. Three rushing touchdowns and a safety later, the Red Devils secured the result and improved to 7-1.

Spanish Fork Dons 20 @ Maple Mountain Golden Eagles 14

The Spanish Fork Dons prevailed over the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles in overtime on Friday. Maple Mountain scored all 14 of its points in the second half, tying the game at 14-14 in the fourth quarter. Their late run came to a heartbreaking halt in overtime, as Spanish Fork’s Nixon Warren punched in the game-winner.

Layton Lancers (6A) @ West Field Longhorns

The game between Layton and West Field was postponed to Saturday evening at 4 p.m. due to inclement weather in the area. The Longhorns led 14-0 when the game was called short.
