Cardinals’ Campbell was called to lead team huddle in New Orleans
Defensive lineman Calais Campbell was called to lead the Arizona Cardinals’ huddle in the locker room in New Orleans.
Former NFL defensive lineman Arthur Jones, brother of former Arizona Cardinals standout Chandler Jones and UFC star Jon Jones, is dead at 39.
Playing for the Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts and the Washington football franchise, now the Commanders, Jones was in the NFL for parts of seven seasons, 2010-17.
Jones, selected in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Ravens, was on Baltimore’s Super Bowl-winning team in 2013.
On the team website, the Ravens posted that they “are mourning the passing of former defensive tackle Arthur Jones.
The statement continued:
“We are terribly saddened to learn of Arthur Jones’ sudden passing,” General Manager Eric DeCosta stated on Oct. 3.
“Arthur’s presence was a gift to everyone he encountered. His big, bright smile, infectious energy and eternal positivity created a presence that continuously uplifted others. He was kind, courteous and enthusiastic — always displaying a love for family, teammates and friends.”
Jones started 20 games as a Raven. Over his final two seasons in purple, he posted 100 tackles and 8.5 sacks.
Jones sacked 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick in Super Bowl 47 right before the lights went out in the Superdome. Jones also had a fumble recovery in that game.
He spent three years with the Colts and one season with Washington after departing Baltimore.
No cause of death has been reported.
