Denver Broncos fans love Alex Palczewski.
The third-year backup offensive lineman serves as the team’s “Jumbo” package tight end, entering the game as an extra blocker. Because he’s technically lining up as a tight end, Palczewski has to report as an eligible receiver, and officials announce it each time he enters the game.
The lineman, nicknamed “Palcho,” played 10 snaps in the team’s season opener at Empower Field at Mile High on Sept. 7, and fans started cheering every time No. 63 was announced as an eligible receiver. Denver played at home again on Sept. 29 and the tradition continued — Palczewski played 16 snaps and fans celebrated each announcement.
“I heard that, and I love that,” running back J.K. Dobbins said. “The first time I heard it, I was like, ‘Am I tripping?’ and then they kept doing it. I was like, ‘This is great.’ I love that. Broncos Country is the best. I played at Baltimore, really good fan base. I think Broncos Country is probably the best I’ve been in other than the Buckeyes.”
Broncos guard Quinn Meinerz loves it, too:
Some Broncos fans have even started wearing No. 63 jerseys with the name “Eligible.” Denver quarterback Bo Nix doesn’t quite understand the mania, but he believes it’s good for the lineman.
“I kind of heard about that the last time we had a home game,” Nix said. “[Monday] for some reason one time I did actually hear it. It is interesting. I don’t know why they are going crazy. We are excited for ‘Palcho,’ but we are excited for the other guys on the field, too. It gives him some life, and I think that is what a crowd is for. You get enthusiastic about the game, and it is good to have a good home atmosphere. It really helps.”
Palczewski appreciates the love, but he told 9News he gets grief from his fellow linemen for the cheers:
Alex Palczewski was a fan favorite tonight.

“I’m getting a full fine from the o-line,” Palczewski told Mike Klis.
Because he has been playing as an eligible receiver, Palczewski might one day get an opportunity to catch a pass if coach Sean Payton tries to trick a defense into believing the lineman has entered the game solely to block before sneaking out on a short route. If he ever catches a touchdown pass in Denver, the love for Palcho will reach a new level. Stay tuned.
