Former Wisconsin safety Hunter Wohler signed his rookie contract with the Indianapolis Colts on Friday.

The Colts selected the Muskego, Wisconsin, native with the 16th pick of the seventh round (No. 232 overall) of last month’s draft. He was the second former Badger selected, following left tackle Jack Nelson to the Atlanta Falcons at No. 218 overall.

Wohler is off to the NFL level after a standout Wisconsin career that included 229 total tackles, 12 for loss, two sacks, three interceptions and 13 pass deflections. He originally joined the program as a four-star recruit in the class of 2021, ranked as the No. 197 player in the class, No. 12 safety and No. 2 player from Wisconsin. Wohler’s best season with the program came as a junior in 2023: 120 tackles, six for loss, two interceptions and six pass deflections.

Projecting forward, he will likely make the Colts roster as a special-teams contributor, with a long-term chance to crack the defensive lineup.

According to OverTheCap.com, Wohler’s draft slot (No. 232 overall) signs for an estimated $4.33 million, with a $131,000 signing bonus. That overall four-year total includes base salaries of $840,000 as a rookie, $1,005,000 in the second year, $1,120,000 in the third and $1,235,000 in the fourth. Of course, he’ll need to make the Colts roster to see the contract’s full value.

Wohler and the rest of the Colts’ draft class are currently participating in the team’s rookie camp. Up next are OTAs and mandatory minicamp. That precedes the July 24th start of preseason training camp, leading into the 2025 NFL season.
