Cowboys fourth-year defensive end Sam Williams thought he got his first sack of the season last Sunday night in the team’s Week 4 game versus the Green Bay Packers.
Instead, he got flagged. Then on Saturday, he got fined.

The NFL has levied an $11,002 fine on Williams for grabbing the facemask of Packers quarterback Jordan Love on a third-down play during the third quarter. The penalty gave Green Bay a new set of downs; the nine-play drive ended with a Josh Jacobs touchdown and the Packers re-taking the lead in a game that ended in a 40-40 tie.
Williams is one of six Cowboys with multiple penalties called against him thus far this year. He was the team’s second-most-penalized player in 2023, the last season in which he played.
Williams’s facemask was one of 11 accepted Cowboys penalties on the night.
Interestingly, another play that drew an unnecessary roughness flag during the game did not draw any further punishment. Cowboys linebacker Marist Liufau’s late hit on running back Emanuel Wilson just before the two-minute warning also extended a Packers drive that resulted in a touchdown.
Liufau was not fined for that hit.

So far in 2025, a half-dozen Cowboys players have been fined for over $90,000 combined through four games.
