Blue Earth Area’s Tristan Tungland (8) breaks loose for a big gain during the Buccaneers’ 50-6 victory over the host Medford Tigers on Friday, Sept. 26. Tungland rushed for a total of 39 yards and a touchdown.

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers football team scored 50 points for the second consecutive game while going on the road to defeat the host Medford Tigers 50-6 in a battle of Section 2AA teams on Friday, Sept. 26.

BEA never trailed in the contest. The Tigers fumbled the opening kickoff and Timmy Nagel recovered the ball to put the Bucs in business at the Medford 45-yard line.

Runs of 17 yards by Tristan Tungland and 15 yards by Nagel helped move the ball down to the Tigers’ four-yard line. Nagel capped off the drive by scoring on a four-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Caden Juba ran the ball into the end zone for a two-point conversion to give the Maroon-and-Gold an early 8-0 lead.

Medford started their next drive at the BEA 49-yard line but were unable to make a first down and punted the ball to the Bucs’ 27-yard line.

An interception by the Tigers gave the home team good field position at the Bucs’ 22-yard line. Medford lost yardage and was faced with a fourth down needing 13 yards for a first down.

The Tigers got all of that and more when their quarterback, Land Seiler, completed a 25-yard touchdown pass to Justin Limon. The two-point conversion failed and the Bucs had an 8-6 lead over the Tigers.

That was all the scoring for the first quarter but BEA added 14 more points in the second quarter.

Nagel’s 11-yard touchdown run on the second play of the second quarter capped off an eight-play 44-yard drive which put the Bucs on top 14-6 after the two-point conversion failed.

Later in the second stanza the two teams traded fumbles. Two plays after BEA had fumbled the ball to Medford, the Bucs’ Tungland recovered a miscue by the Tigers.

BEA took possession at the Medford 43-yard line and only needed three plays to find the end zone again. Juba’s 38-yard run on the second play of the drive advanced the ball to the Tigers’ two-yard line.

Nagel rushed the final two yards for the TD and then ran the ball in for the two-point conversion and a 22-6 Buccaneer lead heading into the intermission.

The third quarter saw the Bucs score three more touchdowns.

Tungland caught the kickoff to start the third quarter and returned the ball 18 yards to the BEA 44-yard line.

The Bucs needed three plays to find the end zone again. Runs of five, 32, and 19 yards by Nagel gave BEA another touchdown. The extra-point try failed but the Bucs were in command 28-6.

BEA scored again the next time they had the ball. A six-play 53-yard drive resulted in Tungland reaching the end zone on a three-yard run. Tungland also ran the ball into the end zone for a successful two-point conversion that extended the Bucs’ advantage to 36-6.

The Tigers were unable to generate any offense on their ensuing drive and had to punt the ball away to the Bucs. A short kick gave BEA the ball at the Medford 41-yard line.

One play later, BEA’s Traven Zierke, who had replaced Juba at quarterback, handed the ball off to Nagel who scampered 41 yards for another BEA score. Zierke then completed a three-yard pass to Will Weerts for a successful two-point conversion and a 44-6 Bucs’ lead.

The start of the fourth quarter brought running time to the contest.

BEA’s reserves added one more touchdown on a four-play 80-yard scoring drive. A 65-yard run by Logan Rademaker was the final score of the game with the Bucs going home with a 50-6 victory.

As would be expected in a lopsided win, the Bucs dominated the offensive statistics.

BEA had 18 first downs to six for Medford. The Bucs gained a total of 403 yards – all of which came on the ground. The Tigers had 29 rushing yards and 51 passing yards for 80 yards of total offense.

BEA fumbled once and it was recovered by Medford. The Bucs recovered both of the Tigers’ fumbles.

BEA was penalized twice for 20 yards while Medford had four penalties for 40 yards.

The Bucs did not punt during the game. Medford punted three times for a 29-yard average.

Nagel had his largest rushing total of the season. The senior running back amassed 229 yards and five touchdowns on 19 carries for an average of just over 12 yards per carry. Rademaker had two carries for 71 yards and a touchdown, Juba rushed for 67 yards and Tungland gained 39 yards and tallied one touchdown.

BEA’s only pass completion was on an extra-point attempt which was successful to Will Weerts.

Hayden Prestegard spearheaded the Bucs’ defensive efforts with seven total tackles including one for loss while also forcing a fumble. Ryder Stauffer finished with five tackles and Tungland had four.

John Nelson, Colton Tolzman, Parker Stauffer and Colin Alfson also had tackles for losses with Alfson’s coming on a quarterback sack.

Nagel also had a quarterback sack and a fumble recovery.

BEA played host to St. Clair/Loyola on Friday, Oct. 3, at Wilson Field. Look for the results of that contest in next week’s edition of the Faribault County Register.
