Former New England Patriots‘ legendary head coach Bill Belichick has gotten off to a bad start in his first college football season with the North Carolina Tar Heels. After making the jump to the college ranks during the offseason, Belichick has not gotten good early results.
Following the Tar Heels’ latest blowout loss to the Clemson Tigers, Belichick holds a 2-3 record. His team simply hasn’t looked good.
Belichick has also been in the news a lot over the last year due to his relationship with Jordon Hudson. Fans have become somewhat annoyed with how vocal Hudson has been. There have been questions about Belichick’s legacy taking a hit of late.

No one will be able to take away the success that Belichick has had throughout his coaching career. He’ll go down as one of the all-time great head coaches in football history. However, his reputation can still be tarnished before retirement.

That is exactly what one of his former teammates is seeing happen.
Damien Harris, who played running back under Belichick with the Patriots, spoke out with brutal honesty about his former head coach. He believes that Belichick’s legacy is declining quickly.
“When you talk about the legacy of Bill Belichick, its just going down, and down, and down,” Harris said bluntly.
On the field, Belichick has looked incapable of leading the North Carolina football program this season. Of course, some of that has to do with the fact that he is in his first season as the Tar Heels’ head coach.
It is extremely difficult, especially in today’s college football landscape, to win immediately after taking over a job. Belichick should be given at least two or three years before a final judgement is passed on his college tenure.

Looking back at his days in New England, Belichick compiled an elite 266-121 record and also led the Patriots to six Super Bowl wins. As an NFL head coach, there are few who compare. His college career might be tarnishing his legacy some, but it will not take away his place among professional head coaches.
Harris clearly doesn’t like what he’s seeing from Belichick at North Carolina. Truthfully, no one has liked it. But, there is still plenty of time for the legendary coach to turn things around and get the Tar Heels back on the right track.
